* RTM Master-Grade Tape; better than Super Ferric (a.k.a. Super Ferro) and one of the best performing tapes currently being manufactured. Very consistent, clean, great sound, and just about perfect quality. This high output studio tape is made in France and typically only available in reel form. There is only one cassette manufacturer, that we know of, who has the ability to load master-grade tape from a reel into empty cassette shells for duplication. We have a feeling you're going to be very happy with the audio quality, it may end up being one of the best sounding cassettes in your collection.
* Turquoise shell assembled with screws, not welded or glued.
* Must ship separately, shipping cannot be combined with vinyl.
Includes unlimited streaming of Girls on Bikes / Boys on Boards (24-bit)
via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.
While this full-length album could technically be considered a compilation, because it takes two existing EPs and combines them into a single release, it's being offered in a fresh way with brand new hi-res 24-bit audio instead of the 16-bit audio that was previously made available with the standalone EPs. In addition to the new hi-res digital offering there is also a limited “2-in-1” vinyl pressing that contains both EPs on one record as well as a limited turquoise colored cassette.
'Girls on Bikes' aims to capture sun-kissed summer evenings, hanging out with friends in the arcades, and cycling on the promenade against a backdrop of palm trees and attractive people. Whilst synthwave seems overrun with sounds and visuals inspired by 80s movies like 'Terminator' and 'Blade Runner', 'Girls on Bikes' proudly sets out to be more like the John Hughes movie 'Pretty in Pink'.
Upon the initial release of the 'Girls on Bikes' EP (via Business Casual) it proved popular with both the synthwave and vaporwave communities, propelling it to the number one spot on all of bandcamp during the weekend of its original release. The use of cheerful melody and hints of 8-bit chiptune on “Boys Fall Easy” suggests at the idea of teenage boys fixated on gaming in the arcade, succumbing to teenage desires, and falling head over heels for the girls outside (on their bikes). It therefore only felt right to provide the 'Girls on Bikes' EP with a sequel; 'Boys on Boards'.
'Boys on Boards' utilizes all the same composition, sound design, arrangement and production techniques as 'Girls on Bikes', mirroring its summery 80s vibe through the use of vintage Yamaha and Roland synthesizers from the era . Furthermore, each song acts as a direct response or counterpoint to its respective track number on 'Girls on Bikes', creating a tight cohesion between the musical story of the two EPs that is deeply interwoven. Synth sounds, drum patterns and melody lines from 'Girls on Bikes' make occasional appearances in 'Boys on Boards' as leitmotifs and meta Easter eggs for keen listeners. Originally released to similar acclaim as the prequel, 'Boys on Boards' proudly sat like a warm summer evening amidst a synthwave scene awash with heavy and intense cyberpunk inspired soundscapes.
Since the release of Boys on Boards it has always been the artist's intention that the two EPs be listened to in succession, more akin to an album; “Girls & Boys”. However, due to the gap in release schedules and nature of independent music promotion, they tend to remain thought of as two separate entities. Bringing together 'Girls on Bikes' and 'Boys on Boards' on a single release, as an album, feels like the truest and most cohesive way to experience these two EPs.
